Yesterday America lost former First lady Rosalynn Carter, who died at her home in Plains, Georgia at age 96.
During her Washington years, Mrs. Carter brought a gentle dignity and charm to the White House. A devoted wife and mother, her post-White House accomplishments are often overlooked by those of her husband. Every time Jimmy Carter swung a hammer to build a Habitat for Humanity home in some desolate area of the globe, his wife of 77 years was almost always nearby wearing her own tool belt and assisting in the effort.
On a personal level, Mrs. Carter was lovely, unassuming, and gracious. All of us who had the pleasure of meeting her will remember her elegance and true Southern charm.
Rest in peace, Mrs. Carter.
