When President Jimmy Carter, whom I have met many times dating back to 1976, autographed a photograph taken of us having dinner together, he wrote on it, "Best wishes to Jim Rogan, Jimmy Carter."
I confess: I felt a little disappointed. I thought that after my decades of public service--and my knowing him at least a little bit--I might get a tad more of a personal inscription beyond "Best wishes." After all, "Best wishes" is what politicians write on photos for total strangers.
Recently I stumbled across a copy of this autographed photo that President Carter presented to someone else.
Let the record reflect that my previously bruised ego is now completely salved!
